Type Locality and Naming
Uttarakhand, Type section is at Bijni in Garhwal syncline. [Original Publication: Shanker, R., and Ganesan, T.M.., 1973.: A Note on the Garhwal Nappe. Him. Geol. 3, 72—82.]
Lithology and Thickness
Pebbly mudstone. Comprises essentially of pebble-slate, boulder-slate, grit-slate, slaty shale with minor quartzite, conglomerate and greenish grey well cleaved pencil shale; ~5-80 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Unconformable with Tal Quartzite Fm / Deona Fm
Upper contact
Unconformable with Nilkanth Fm.
Regional extent
Uttarakhand. Correlated with Sisne Fm in Nepal, Rangit Pebble Bed in Darjeeling, and Diuri Formation in Bhutan (Nandi 1975; Laskar and Roy Chowdhury 1977; Bhargava 2008). The basic character of these correlatable formations is their overall arenaceous composition, frequently associated with coaly units, and discontinuous horizons with rich near-coastal and marine macro-invertebrates.
